BDE Course Details

The Beginner Driver Education (BDE) Course offers theory and one-on-one in-car training sessions, led by instructors who are provincially and municipally re-certified annually

• G1 License: A G1 license is not required to begin the theory portion of the course, but students must have a G1 before participating in in-car training.

• Age Requirement: You can register your child for the course up to three months before they turn 16.

• Course Duration: The Ministry-approved BDE course can be completed in approximately one month, depending on the student’s availability. However, the course must be finished within one year from the start date.

• Scheduling In-car Sessions: Students are responsible for scheduling their in-car training sessions with their instructor. No in-car sessions will be provided after the course’s expiry date.

Please note that the theory part is NOT designed to help with your G1 knowledge test.

BDE Course Overview

The BDE (Beginner Driver Education) course is designed to help new drivers complete their training and prepare for the driving test. It consists of two key parts: the theory portion and in-car training.

The course consists of:

  • 20 hours of online self-study theory
  • 10 hours of online homework link
  • 10 hours of in-car sessions

Students need to complete both the theory & in-car sessions within one year so that the school can certify them.

Theory program Breakdown:

The program is highly interactive with slides, activities, & videos, and students can learn at their own pace, working from the comfort of their own homes, schools, work, or anywhere, at any time of the day or night. Course support is available daily between 8 am and 10 pm.

The theory program (20 hours):

  1. Introduction
  2. Session 1: RULES OF THE ROAD
  3. Session 2: THE VEHICLE AND ITS COMPONENTS
  4. Session 3: VEHICLE HANDLING
  5. Session 4: DRIVER BEHAVIOUR
  6. Session 5: RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY
  7. Session 6: SHARING THE ROAD
  8. Session 7: ATTENTION
  9. Session 8: PERCEPTION AND RISK MANAGEMENT
  10. Final Exam

The exam has a total of 35 questions, and students must obtain a 70% or higher score to pass the course as per the BDE MTO Standards. Students have 3 attempts to pass the final exam.

The homework link (10 hours):

  1. Introduction
  2. Session 1: RULES OF THE ROAD
  3. Session 2: VEHICLE HANDLING
  4. Session 3: AGGRESSIVE DRIVING
  5. Session 4: SAFE DRIVING
  6. Session 5: PROACTIVE DRIVING
  7. Final Exam

The exam has a total of 35 questions, and students must obtain a 70% or higher score to pass the course as per the BDE MTO Standards. Students have unlimited attempts to pass the final exam.

 

 

In-Car Training:

    • 10 hours of in-car driving sessions
    • English is preferred for the in-car sessions, though the theory part can be completed in French.

Course Completion Requirements:

  • To receive certification, you must complete both the theory and in-car portions within one year.
  • You can start in-car training before finishing the online theory portion, depending on your availability. It’s recommended you complete at least 50% of the theory part.
  • Upon completing both parts, your details will be updated with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO). This allows you to book your driving test 8 months after receiving your G1 license.

 

Important Notes:

  • You do not need a G1 license to begin the theory portion, but it is required for the in-car training.
  • After completing the BDE course, you can visit Service Ontario in person to obtain your course completion letter which may help you secure a lower insurance rate.

How TO Register?

Registration Details

Please email us using info@ottawasafedrivers.ca a clear copy of your licence, cell phone number and email address. If you want to do the theory part in FRENCH, please let us know. We prefer English language for IN-CAR sessions.

Please E-transfer the price of the desired package to  info@ottawasafedrivers.ca

Once we receive your information and payment, we will complete your registration and email you an E-LEARNING link for the theory part of the course within 24 hours. You can take the theory part of the course without having the G1 licence, but you will need it for the in-car training sessions.

Once you complete registration and start the theory part, we can arrange for your 10 hours of in-car training sessions depending on your availability even before finishing the online part.

Once you complete both the 10 hours in-car training sessions and the theory part, we will update your information with the MTO system so you can book your driving test after 8 months from the date you got the G1 licence.

Please note: You can get a letter from Service Ontario that confirms your completion of the BDE course with us which you may use to get a lower insurance rate.

The BDE course at Ottawa Safe Drivers Driving School is a Ministry of Transportation-approved program designed to help new drivers obtain their G2 licence faster. It includes 20 hours of online theory, 10 hours of homework along with 10 hours of in-car training sessions. Upon successful completion, you will receive your licence.

To register, email a clear copy of your driver’s licence, email address, and cell phone number to info@ottawasafedrivers.ca. Please also e-transfer the course fee to the same email address. Once registered, you will receive an e-learning link for the theory part of the course.

You can begin the theory portion of the BDE course without a G1 licence. However, you will need a G1 licence to participate in the in-car training sessions.

Yes, we offer flexible scheduling for in-car training sessions. You can coordinate with your instructor to find times that fit your availability, even if you still need to finish the online theory portion.

The Regular BDE course costs $678 (including tax). We also offer packages that include extra in-car sessions or G2 test car rentals. Occasionally, we have special promotions or discounts, such as summer sales. Please get in touch with us for the latest pricing and offers.

If you need more practice, you can purchase additional in-car training hours. We offer packages that include extra hours to make sure you are prepared for your road test.

Upon completing the online theory and in-car training, we will update your information with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO). You can then request a course completion certificate from Service Ontario, which can be used for insurance purposes.
